Moulvi Atiqullah Azizi, Deputy Minister of Art and Culture, met with the head of UNESCO

Thursday (25th of January, 2024) Moulavi Atiqullah Azizi, Deputy Minister of Art and Culture of the Ministry of Information and Culture, held a meeting with Patricia McPhillips, the head of the UNESCO Organization for Afghanistan, and the delegation in his office.
Moulvi Atiqullah Azizi, Deputy Minister of Art and Culture, shared information about the status of the country's historical and cultural areas and added; “With the arrival of the Islamic Emirate, a large number of historical monuments of the country were approached, their status and condition were examined, and dozens of such monuments that were in danger were repaired.”
Mr. Azizi said: “The Islamic Emirate is committed to protecting the historical and cultural identity of the country and we request the international cultural communities not to link the cultural field to politics and help Afghanistan in this regard.”
Patricia McPhillips, head of the UNESCO organization, said: “The Ministry of Information and Culture is committed to the protection of cultural heritage and we want to expand these efforts together. UNESCO is expanding its activities to protect the cultural and historical identity of Afghanistan this year.”
Ms. Phillips added; “UNESCO is starting to work according to a new plan for the stabilization of Minar Jam in Ghor province, for the protection and assistance of Bamyan and other areas, and also for increasing the capacity of artists (calligraphers, minaturists, painters...) in Afghanistan will also be the implemented programs coordinated with the Ministry of Information and Culture.”
