Kunar Hosts Professional Development Seminar for Journalists, Media Officials and Young People
The Ministry of Information and Culture’s Deputy Ministry for Publications, in coordination with the Kunar Directorate of Information and Culture, held a one-day capacity-building seminar in Kunar aimed at enhancing the intellectual, ideological, and professional competencies of journalists, media officials, writers, and young people.
The seminar was attended by Mawlawi Muhajir Farahi, Deputy Minister for Publications; Mawlawi Sami-ul-Haq Haq Bayan, Director of Information and Culture in Kunar; officials from the Ministry of Information and Culture; and representatives of local institutions.
In his opening remarks, Mawlawi Sami-ul-Haq Haq Bayan welcomed the participants and highlighted the importance of training seminars in strengthening knowledge and professional capacity. He expressed hope that journalists, writers, authors, poets, and young people would benefit fully from the program.
He further stated that the adversaries of the country and the Islamic system had been defeated on the military front, emphasizing the need for sustained efforts in the cultural and intellectual spheres to counter them in these areas as well.
Addressing the participants, Mawlawi Muhajir Farahi underscored the significant influence of the media in the 21st century. He said the Islamic Emirate attached considerable importance to the media and journalists and remained committed to supporting the sector and enhancing its professional capacity.
Farahi further noted that the adversaries of Afghans and the Islamic system sought to foment regional, linguistic and ethnic divisions, disseminate false news and propaganda, and undermine public stability. He emphasised that journalists, writers, authors and social media users had a responsibility to counter false and misleading information and propaganda.
Mawlawi Safiullah Raed, Director of Mass Media Monitoring at the Deputy Ministry for Publications, and Mawlawi Khaliqyar Ahmadzai, an adviser to the deputy ministry, also addressed the seminar, alongside provincial officials and university lecturers. Their presentations focused on the principles of journalism, the responsibilities of media professionals and the importance of professional standards in journalism.
The speakers highlighted the role of the media in promoting national development and reconstruction, strengthening unity among communities and encouraging young people to contribute to society. They also cited capacity-building seminars as an example of initiatives aimed at supporting journalists and strengthening the media sector.
Participants welcomed the seminar and called for similar programs to be organized in the future.
