One-Day Capacity-Building Seminar Held for Journalists in Paktia

The Ministry of Information and Culture's Deputy Ministry for Publications Affairs organized a one-day capacity-building seminar in Paktia Province for journalists, poets, cultural figures and writers, focusing on strengthening their ideological, intellectual and professional capacities.
Opening the seminar, Mawlawi Faizullah Johari, Director of Information and Culture for Paktia, welcomed the participants and underscored the importance of integrity and responsibility in journalism. He said that journalists and writers who fail to remain committed to the principles of their profession risk losing the trust and confidence of the public. He emphasized that media professionals must remain dedicated to truthfulness in both their reporting and writing to help preserve a clear and authentic historical record for future generations.
Addressing the gathering, Muhajir Farahi, Deputy Minister for Publications Affairs, said that media officials, journalists, writers, intellectuals and community elders have a shared responsibility to effectively communicate the country's positive developments, the decrees of His Excellency the Amir al-Mu'minin (May Allah Protect Him), and the achievements of the Islamic system to the public.
He further stressed that the role of the media extends beyond delivering news. Alongside informing the public, media outlets should present facts accurately, contribute to fostering a constructive outlook among the younger generation, and play an active role in promoting and safeguarding sound public awareness.
The seminar also featured presentations by Mawlawi Safiullah Raed, Director of Media Monitoring; Qari Khabib Ghafran, Director of Public Relations and Spokesperson of the Ministry; and Mawlawi Abdul Haq Hammad, Adviser to the Deputy Ministry for Publications Affairs. The speakers described the establishment of the Islamic system and the preservation of the unity of the Islamic Ummah as fundamental responsibilities of every Muslim. They noted that journalists are not only responsible for informing the public but also for safeguarding Islamic identity, national culture and the country's historical values.
The speakers further observed that, despite the considerable opportunities available to Muslims, challenges such as weakened faith and religious conviction, internal divisions, limited engagement with modern technology, misinterpretation of Islamic texts and insufficient attention to the media sector have contributed to the difficulties facing the Islamic Ummah. They emphasized that media institutions should make full use of their capacities to fulfil their responsibilities in supporting the strength and stability of the Islamic system.
Speaking during the seminar, Mawlawi Mohammad Anwar Din Parwar, Deputy Governor of Paktia, called on journalists to produce reporting that is comprehensive, accurate and firmly grounded in facts. He urged media professionals to counter misinformation, rumours and inaccurate reporting by providing the public with reliable and verified information.
During the event, Sahil Mangal, Head of the Paktia Journalists' Protection Committee, also shared the challenges facing journalists and media organizations with the relevant officials.
The seminar concluded with a presentation by Mohammad Ayaz Zaki, a lecturer at the Faculty of Journalism of Paktia University, who delivered a session on strengthening journalists' professional knowledge and skills.
