Herat Commemorates 107th Anniversary of Afghanistan’s Independence

On 5 Rabi al-Awwal 1448 AH, the Herat Directorate of Information and Culture held a special ceremony to mark the 107th anniversary of Afghanistan’s Independence. The event was attended by Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi, Director of Information and Culture of Herat, along with former Mujahideen, religious scholars, cultural figures, and residents of the province.

Officials of the Herat Directorate of Information and Culture said the ceremony was held to preserve the memory of important historical events, highlight the struggles of the Afghan people, and pass the country’s historical values on to the younger generation.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi said commemorating Independence Day serves as a tribute to the courage and sacrifices of the Afghan people in defending their country. He said the Afghan people had resisted major powers throughout the past century and had defeated three major world powers over the last 100 years.

He further noted that several leaders of the Islamic Emirate had, at different stages, taken part in jihad and resistance against Soviet and US forces. Referring to the 20-year occupation, he said that during the presence of US forces, individuals with a jihadist outlook faced various forms of pressure and treatment.

Former Mujahideen Wakil Ahmad Mujahid and Mr. Sayed Ahmad Qatali said the Afghan people’s victories over major powers were the result of resistance, steadfastness, and divine support.

The 28th of Asad marks the 107th anniversary of Afghanistan’s Independence and is regarded as one of the country’s significant historical occasions, commemorating the Afghan people’s struggle for independence.
