The Importance of Preserving the Historical Chahlstoon Garden

The Deputy Minister of Art and Culture, Mavlawi Atiqullah Azizi, recently visited the Chahlstoon Garden. During his visit, he was accompanied by the heads of several departments, including Historical Artifacts, Archaeology, Financial and Administrative Affairs, the Public Library, National Radio and Television, and Youth Reform Affairs.

Engineer Ajmal Miywandi, the head of the Aga Khan Cultural Foundation, which is responsible for the restoration of Chahlstoon Garden, provided a detailed presentation on the renovation project. He noted that revenues from the garden have decreased compared to previous years, resulting in various issues related to its maintenance.

Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi emphasized the importance of the Chahlstoon Garden as a significant part of the country’s historical heritage. He assured that necessary efforts would be made to protect and improve the garden. He encouraged citizens and tourists to visit Chahlstoon Garden to appreciate its beauty, and ancient architecture, and learn about its historical significance.

Chahlstoon Garden and Palace were constructed during the reign of Amir Abdul Rahman Khan from 1880 to 1901. Significant modifications were made to the palace during the reign of Amir Habibullah Khan, which served as a residence for high-ranking state officials during the monarchy.

The garden and palace incurred substantial damage during the civil wars. However, between 2015 and 2018, the Aga Khan Cultural Foundation, with financial support from Germany, completed the restoration of the garden.

Currently, Chahlstoon Garden is open to the public and has welcomed over three million visitors since 2019. It is regarded as a valuable site for exhibitions and gatherings and stands as an important symbol of the country’s historical wealth.
