Training Seminar on Modern Library Skills Begins
On Tuesday, 23 Rabi’ al-Thani 1448, A three-day training seminar titled “Introduction to Modern Library Skills” began at the Directorate of Public Libraries of the Ministry of Information and Culture.
The seminar, organized for officials responsible for public libraries as well as libraries at government and private universities, was attended by Sheikh Abdul Rahman Tayebi, Deputy Minister for Culture and Arts; Dr. Rafiullah Samim, Director of Public Libraries; and a number of other directors of the Ministry.
Speaking at the opening, Dr. Rafiullah Samim said the seminar is intended to strengthen the capacities of officials working in government and private libraries, enabling them to better fulfil their responsibilities and contribute to strengthening the culture of reading in society.
Samim called on participants to listen carefully to the presentations and practical experience shared by the instructors and to make effective use of what they learn in their respective libraries.
Sheikh Abdul Rahman Tayebi, Deputy Minister for Culture and Arts, also addressed the seminar, highlighting the importance of books and reading. He said books have played a major role in the progress of the modern world and that the intellectual development of societies is advanced through reading and access to books.
Describing young people as the future leaders and builders of society, Tayebi called for greater efforts to encourage young people to read and to help them understand the importance of libraries, to strengthen their academic and intellectual capacities.
Other speakers at the seminar welcomed the initiative by the Directorate of Public Libraries and stressed the importance of strengthening the culture of reading. They said officials responsible for libraries should make every effort to promote reading and contribute to enhancing the academic capacities of young people.
The seminar will cover the fundamentals of modern librarianship, library responsibilities, cataloguing, book classification, and bibliographic works.
