Qari Obaidullah Hanif, Head of the National Archives, and Mohammad Shafiq Ahmadzai, Director of Foreign Relations and Cultural Attachés at the Ministry of Information and Culture, participated in an online scholarly meeting on Islamic manuscripts organized by the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO).
The Manuscripts and Calligraphy Center of ICESCO organized the meeting, titled “Islamic Manuscripts in the World,” to address the manuscripts of the Republic of Mali. The meeting aimed to survey the condition of Islamic manuscripts globally, gather accurate data on their presence in each country, and discuss preservation efforts in Mali.
During the meeting, the Director-General of the Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) stated that the Republic of Mali, with its hundreds of thousands of manuscripts, represents a rare intellectual and historical treasure that documents more than eight centuries of Islamic civilization and thought in West Africa.
He emphasized the importance of preserving this valuable heritage and added that the selection of Mali’s manuscripts in this meeting highlights the significance of the country’s manuscript heritage.
