Seminar on “The Importance of Public Libraries and Reading in Islamic History” Held in Logar

A seminar titled “The Importance of Public Libraries and Reading in Islamic History” was jointly organized by the Directorate of Public Libraries, under the Deputy Ministry of Art and Culture of the Ministry of Information and Culture, in coordination with the Logar Directorate of Information and Culture.

The event was attended by Mawlawi Faizullah Johari, Director of Information and Culture for Logar Province; Dr. Rafiullah Samim, Director of Public Libraries; as well as officials from several government departments, respected religious scholars, and youth representatives.

At the opening of the seminar, Mawlawi Faizullah Johari highlighted the significance of reading, books, and libraries from an Islamic perspective. He emphasized that a strong culture of reading and familiarity with libraries is essential for the intellectual and social development of the younger generation.
He further encouraged youth to benefit from public libraries as an important resource for expanding their knowledge and academic growth.

During the seminar, Dr. Rafiullah Samim delivered a detailed presentation on the history of public libraries. He stated that Islam places great importance on knowledge, books, and reading.
He added:

“History clearly shows that our scholars and predecessors maintained a deep relationship with books and study. If Muslims today revive that same passion for reading and learning, it will not be far-fetched to see global leadership once again in the hands of the Muslim community.”

Meanwhile, Mufti Waheedullah Wahaj, a distinguished religious scholar, also spoke about the value of reading. He urged the youth to dedicate specific time each day for books and study, making it a regular part of their daily lives.
