Training Seminar Held in Sheberghan to Strengthen Journalists’ Intellectual, Religious and Professional Capacities

3 Rabi’ al-Thani 1448 AH The Deputy Ministry of Publications Affairs of the Ministry of Information and Culture held a one-day training seminar in Sheberghan city to strengthen the intellectual, religious and professional capacities of journalists.
The seminar was attended by Mawlawi Muhajir Farahi, Deputy Minister for Publications Affairs; directors of the Ministry of Information and Culture; officials of local government institutions in Jawzjan Province; journalists; media representatives; and young people.
Welcoming the participants, Mawlawi Saifuddin Mutasim, Director of Information and Culture of Jawzjan Province, said journalists are more than messengers of news. They reflect facts, raise public awareness and help build communication between the people and the government.
He said media outlets and journalists play an important role in raising public awareness and reporting on events in society. By observing professional standards and acting responsibly, he added, they can make a meaningful contribution to public awareness and social cohesion.
Mawlawi Muhajir Farahi, Deputy Minister for Publications Affairs, said the media, often regarded as the fourth estate, has an important role in shaping public opinion and bringing information to the public. He stressed that media organizations have a responsibility to report facts accurately and responsibly.
Farahi further said that, while reporting on achievements, the media should also convey people’s concerns to the relevant authorities in an impartial and truthful manner. He emphasized that government spokespersons are responsible for providing the media with necessary information in a timely manner, helping to prevent the spread of rumours and misinformation.
The Deputy Minister for Publications Affairs also stressed the importance of using social media responsibly, noting that these platforms should be used to raise public awareness and serve the interests of society.
During the seminar, Mawlawi Safiullah Raed, Director of Monitoring of Mass Media; Mawlawi Abdul Haq Hammad, Adviser to the Deputy Ministry of Publications Affairs; officials from a number of government institutions in Jawzjan Province; university lecturers; and a journalist representing the participating journalists delivered presentations and shared their views on journalists’ professional responsibilities, the importance of strengthening their intellectual and religious capacities, and the need for truthfulness, accuracy and responsibility in media work.
The speakers also addressed the role of young people in the development of the country and the importance of observing Islamic values in media activities. They emphasized the importance of setting clear goals in life, avoiding ethnic, regional and linguistic prejudices, strengthening cooperation between media organizations and government institutions, and working to address challenges facing the media sector.
Participants called for the continuation of similar training programmes to further strengthen journalists’ professional capacities and for greater attention to the challenges facing media organizations. Representatives of local media also expressed their commitment to accurately reporting facts and fulfilling their professional responsibilities.
