Deputy Minister for Arts and Culture Meets with UNESCO Representative on Cultural Heritage Preservation
Sheikh Abdul Rahman Tayebi, Deputy Minister for Arts and Culture at the Ministry of Information and Culture, met with Sarah Ziaei, a UNESCO project officer, to discuss the preservation of Afghanistan’s cultural heritage, the restoration of historic buildings, the condition of the Minaret of Jam, and the implementation of joint projects.
During the meeting, Ms. Ziaei provided an update on UNESCO’s completed and ongoing projects in Afghanistan. She reported that construction of the bridge near the Minaret of Jam was approximately 95 percent complete.
She reaffirmed UNESCO’s commitment to continued cooperation with the Ministry of Information and Culture in protecting and restoring Afghanistan’s historical monuments.
Sheikh Abdul Rahman Tayebi welcomed UNESCO’s cooperation, noting that the preservation of Afghanistan’s cultural and historical heritage is a shared responsibility of the relevant institutions.
He also emphasized that the restoration of historic buildings must be carried out in accordance with professional standards, with due regard for historical records, the authenticity of the structures, and their distinctive architectural features.
