Uzbek Cultural Heritage Delegation Visits Sar-e-Pul

A delegation from the Republic of Uzbekistan’s cultural heritage authorities visited Sar-e-Pul Province and held a meeting with Mullah Abdul Ghaffar Haqnema, Director of Information and Culture in the province.

Led by Azizjan Arifjanov, Deputy Head of Uzbekistan’s Cultural Heritage Agency, the delegation included Jafar Fattahov, Uzbekistan’s Consul General in Mazar-i-Sharif, as well as officials and experts in international relations, cultural heritage research, regional restoration and construction.

The delegation said the visit aimed to strengthen cultural ties between Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, assess the condition of historical monuments in Sar-e-Pul, and sign a cooperation agreement on their restoration and rehabilitation.

Mullah Abdul Ghaffar Haqnema described the visit as an important step towards strengthening cultural relations between the two countries. He noted that Sar-e-Pul has a rich cultural and historical heritage and that its historical monuments hold particular significance.

He added that the visit could help the peoples of Afghanistan and Uzbekistan gain a better understanding of each other’s cultures and create opportunities to expand cultural cooperation. He also described it as an opportunity to learn more about Afghanistan’s Islamic culture and jihad history.

During the visit, the delegation toured the historic Khisht-Pul, the Khisht-Pul Mosque and the shrine of Imamzada Yahya ibn Zayd Shahid. The delegation members learned about the history of these sites and the measures taken to preserve and maintain them.

The delegation expressed appreciation for the Sar-e-Pul Department of Information and Culture’s efforts to preserve the historical sites and emphasized the importance of protecting and maintaining the cultural and historical heritage of every country.

The Uzbek delegation pledged to cooperate in restoring and rehabilitating Sar-e-Pul’s historical monuments following the signing of the cooperation agreement.
