Deputy Minister for Arts and Culture Meets with the Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Discuss Bilateral Cultural Cooperation

on Wednesday, 2 Jumada al-Awwal 1448 AH, Sheikh Abdul Rahman Tayebi, Deputy Minister for Arts and Culture at the Ministry of Information and Culture, met with Dr. Ilham Mammadov, Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Afghanistan, in Kabul  to discuss ways to strengthen cultural and artistic ties and cooperate in preserving historical heritage.
During the meeting, Ambassador Mammadov highlighted the shared historical and cultural heritage of Afghanistan and Azerbaijan, noting that the two countries have common religious and cultural values.
He said he had visited several historical and cultural sites in Kabul, including museums, the Art Gallery of the School of Fine Arts, Chehel Sotoun Palace, Darul Aman Palace and public libraries. He also invited Sheikh Tayebi to attend the Seventh International Cultural Dialogue Forum, scheduled to take place in Baku in late October.
Sheikh Tayebi said the shared values and longstanding ties between Afghanistan and Azerbaijan provided a strong basis for expanding bilateral cooperation. He called for greater collaboration in cultural and artistic fields, the exchange of expertise and stronger links between cultural institutions in the two countries.
The two sides discussed a range of potential initiatives, including joint art exhibitions, exchanges of artists and cultural delegations, cooperation between museums and art galleries, and the use of Azerbaijan’s experience in preserving and restoring Afghanistan’s historical heritage.
They also explored opportunities to organise joint exhibitions of Islamic art, calligraphy and miniature painting, strengthen the skills of Afghan artists, and promote cooperation in traditional arts and handicrafts. The exchange of expertise in digitising historical documents and handwritten manuscripts was also discussed.
Sheikh Tayebi stressed the importance of turning these proposals into practical initiatives. He called for regular communication between the relevant institutions in both countries and the development of specific programmes to advance and follow up on cultural cooperation.
Sheikh Tayebi accepted the ambassador’s invitation to attend the Seventh International Cultural Dialogue Forum in Baku.
