Mawlawi Atiqullah Azizi, the deputy minister for Art and Culture at the Ministry of Information and Culture, met with representatives of the ALIPH Foundation: Carlos Eduardo and Alexandra Faibeg, along with Engineer Maiwandi, the Head of the Cultural Section of the Aga Khan Foundation.
At the start of the meeting, Deputy Minister Azizi welcomed the foundation's representatives to Afghanistan and highlighted the organization’s significant role in supporting the preservation and strengthening of the country's cultural and historical heritage.
Mr. Azizi noted that, for the first time in decades, an opportunity has arisen to properly protect Afghanistan's historical monuments, archaeological sites, and cultural heritage. He emphasized the importance of international organizations playing a vital role in this preservation and stabilization, free from political considerations.
In turn, the representatives of the ALIPH Foundation described the cultural efforts made in Afghanistan as significant and committed to launching and continuing various cultural projects. They mentioned ongoing initiatives, including the preservation and consolidation efforts at the archaeological site of Mes Aynak in Logar Province, several projects in Bamyan, and the protection of the Minaret of Jam in Ghor Province, as well as the minarets in Herat and Kabul Bala Hissar.
The representatives of the ALIPH Foundation also stressed the need for closer, more organized, and more effective cooperation with the Ministry of Information and Culture. They suggested that a clear mechanism and framework be established to ensure proper coordination between both parties.
