Ministry Holds Coordination Meeting with Publishers, Booksellers, and Printing Houses

The Copyright Directorate of the Deputy Ministry for Publications Affairs at the Ministry of Information and Culture convened a coordination meeting with publishers, booksellers, and representatives of printing houses.
The meeting was attended by Sheikh Noor-ul-Haq Anwar, Director General of the Administrative Affairs Office; Mr. Muhajer Farahi, Deputy Minister for Publications Affairs at the Ministry of Information and Culture; Qari Wali Gul Jawad, Director of Cultural Affairs at Kabul Municipality; as well as publishers, booksellers, representatives of printing houses, and authors.
Addressing the gathering, Sheikh Noor-ul-Haq Anwar spoke about the significance and benefits of books and reading, as well as the importance of fostering a culture of reading within society. He noted that reading is one of humanity's fundamental needs, strengthening the mind and enhancing intellectual capacity.
Speaking at the meeting, Mr. Muhajer Farahi emphasized that all printing houses and publishers are required to obtain an International Standard Book Number (ISBN) for their publications. He further stated that the challenges faced by printing houses, publishers, and booksellers would be reviewed and addressed, adding that a suitable location has also been designated for them within the printing complex.
Mr. Farahi also called on the relevant institutions to conclude book procurement and publishing contracts with domestic publishers. In addition, he urged publishers and printing houses to produce and publish books that contribute to the intellectual, cultural, and academic development of society, particularly the younger generation.
Other speakers discussed the use of ISBNs, the rights and responsibilities of authors, writers, translators, and researchers, the observance of copyright from the perspective of Islamic teachings and Sharia principles, book marketing, and the licensing of publishing houses.
Representatives of printing houses, publishers, and booksellers also presented their concerns, requests, and recommendations. The relevant officials assured participants that these issues would be carefully reviewed and appropriate measures would be taken to address them.
